Washington Professionals for the Study of Psychoanalysis (WPSP)

A Chapter of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association

Dear Colleagues:

WPSP's Board is looking forward to the coming year. The new Board met in June to begin the pleasing work of considering next year's focus and goals. We welcome the opportunity of strengthening and expanding our psychoanalytically informed community.  In keeping with our history, we hope to find ways to continue to promote interest in using a psychoanalytic lens to examine our world through literature and the arts. As always, we welcome the participation of all members of WPSP.

The Board for 2008-2009 will be:

Since WPSP is an official local chapter of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, we offer many advantages to members: There is of course a discount at Division 39 conferences as well as reduced fee individual subscriptions to the P-E-P website (access to major English language psychoanalytic journals as well as the collected works of Freud, Klein, Winnicott and more).

Being affiliated with Division 39 provides opportunities for collaboration and networking both locally and nationally. There are also exciting possibilities for grants to fund collaborative efforts sponsored by two or more APA Divisions (e.g., Voices of Feminist Diversity, Community Psychology task force on Disaster, Research Defined Practice).

We have a very user friendly web site: www.washpsp.org to further our members' search for information about our plans as well as links to happenings in the broader psychoanalytic community through a linked Regional Calendar of Events. WPSP helped start this regional collaboration of psychoanalytically oriented groups which provide a monthly email and website listings of events in the Baltimore-Washington area.  We do hope to gently progress towards more electronic exchanges of information as we comfortably can.

We continue to provide ongoing psychoanalytically informed seminar groups throughout the year providing a forum for study of theory and technique with like minded professionals: CE credits are available for psychologists and social workers participating in these seminars.

WPSP is also a partner in the Research Consortium: This diverse group blends clinical and research concerns with a psychoanalytic orientation.

We look forward to the coming year with anticipation.

Warmly,

Laurel Nelson

WPSP President
